
Lígia was born in Guimarães in 1981. She graduated in Dance – Performance Department in Escola Superior de Dança / IPL ['03] during which she wins a scholarship from the Program Sócrates/Erasmus for a traineeship at Fontys Dansacademie in Tilburg, Holland. Later on she specialized in choreographic creation in Fórum Dança, attending the Course of Choreographic Research and Creation, with Clara Andermatt, Francisco Camacho and Rui Horta [04]. Pursuing her interest in developing works that blend dance and digital art, Lígia attended the Course of Interdisciplinary and Technological Performance Arts at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian ['08]. She is currently attending the M.F.A. Program in Performance and Interactive Media Arts at Brooklyn College-CUNY, with a scholarship from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in partnership with FLAD (Luso American Foundation), and with the support from GDA (Artists Rights Management).
As a choreographer, she highlights her collaborations with digital artist Ivan Franco in "Equilibrium" within the project Colina - Collaboration In Arts ['04], "Algum Dia Tinha de Ser a Sério", premiered in Centro Cultural de Belém/Box Nova[CCB '06] and "Lively Dreams", premiered at Festival Temps d'Images in CCB ['08]. Currently they are working on a new project - "Strings of Thought" - to be premiered in Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture.
Lígia also collaborates with other artists as a performer, from which she underlines the work with choreographer Maria Ramos in "Nerves Like Nylon"['08-'09] and choreographer Benedetta Maxia, video artist Miguel Rocha and architect Pedro Louro in "Browser 1.0" ['05].
Parallel to her dance activities Lígia also works as a freelance producer.
She first got started in the production area as a way to better manage her own artistic projects. With time she began to collaborate with other independent artists and production companies as well as getting involved in bigger networking projects with artists of different backgrounds and cultures (cultural forums, festivals, European projects). In 2006 she is selected to participate in the Course of Management / Production of the Performing Arts at Fórum Dança, Lisbon.
In this context, she has worked in the production team of "The State of the World" (internship), a cultural forum promoted by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian ['07]; with Henrique Figueiredo / ProCompasso ['07-'08]; Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz, within the european project Looping ['09]; with Teresa Dillon in the pre-production of the 2nd edition of UM - International Festival of Experimental Intermedia ['09]; APMP [2009-10], GHOST/Atelier Real [2011].
